Story by Jason and Kimmer

all participants used with permission

takes place at the Raven Night Club

Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2001

Jason carried the food he had prepared out of the kitchen and to a table in the bar. The other Ravenettes had all gone shopping.

Jason was enjoying the company of his fellow Ravenettes, but he had decided he needed some quiet time to reflect. He looked with satisfaction at his lunch, fresh salad and a large steak, so rare that, if it wasn't covered in garlic, his fellow Raven-ettes might have been worried he'd been brought across.

"And with a glass of ice cold Toohey's," he thought, "I could almost believe I was back home".

Jason paused, closing his eyes.

"In nomine Patri, et Fili, et Spiritu Sancti, Amen".

(translation: "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirt, Amen".)

"BENEDICTE, Domine, nos et haec tua dona quae de tua largitate sumus sumpturi. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen".

(translation: "BLESS us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen".)

"Mensae coelestis participes faciat nos, Rex aeternae gloriae. Amen".

(translation: "May the King of everlasting glory make us partakers of the heavenly table. Amen".)

"In Nomine Patri, et Fili, et Spiritu Sancti Amen".

(translation: "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen".)

Jason finished his prayers, and started on his salad. He heard a voice behind him, female and speaking Latin, too quickly for him to catch much. He turned and saw Janette.

"My Lady, forgive me, I didn't realize you spoke Latin, and I'm afraid I'm just a beginner. You are speaking way too quickly for me".

Suddenly he stopped, realizing from the look in her eyes that he was not addressing Janette.

"Oh," Jason said, pausing uncomfortably. "General Lacroix, I presume. It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Sir, I think". He stood up, and awkwardly offered his hand to the General. "My name is Jason".

Lacroix did not accept the hand offered him, but nodded, regarding Jason with a mixture of amusement and politeness.

"A traditionalist Catholic warring as a Raven, that's wonderfully delicious, yes. I daresay my daughter sees the humor in that".

Jason allowed the faintest hint of a smile to cross his lips.

"Why don't you sit down, General, um, I'm sorry, do you prefer to be called General?".

"It will suffice," replied Lacroix.

"Yes, as I was saying, sit down, I can't imagine these constant changes are enjoyable for you, but I'm certain that, at the very least, you'll find your time in our Dark Lady of the Knight's body more pleasant than your time in Screed's".

"It Was Nice While It Lasted" Part 2
by Molly/StormBorn with help from Kimmer
All Ravenettes used by prior permission

"Happy Bastille Day!" Molly tucked a little tricolor flag into the strap of Janette's dress, and was a little taken-aback as Janette removed it promptly and sneered at it.

"It's not Janette; it's LaCroix," Jason informed her.

"And why would you think either Janette or myself would have any sympathy for that victory of the unwashed masses?" JaCroix inquired glacially.

"Good point," Molly said. "Well, at least you're better suited to Janette's body than Tracy was. No wandering off in the sunlight, no trying to eat coffee and doughnuts..."

The face was Janette's, but the smile was pure LaCroix. "Oh, I'm very comfortable with this body--I have been for centuries. Indeed," he added thoughtfully, "It might be interesting to arrange a date with my lovely daughter while she's in my body..."

"Molly!" Kimmer reprimanded her. "It's a PG-13 War, remember?"

"It was only a bit of innuendo. Besides, have you *seen* a PG-13 movie lately? Anyway, sir, time's getting short and I don't think the Cousins will let us borrow your body just so you can have a unique...ah, experience."

"Hmmn. Yes, well, perhaps you're right. Have you made any progress on finding out the cause of this predicament?"

"Us?" Kaiya asked. "Hey, we're fashion mavens, not researchers. Um, no offense, sir."

As the assembled Ravenettes shrugged in agreement, JaCroix's eyes swept the room. "I see my daughter's faction is very like herself." With that he accepted a glass of Special Reserve from Miklos and sat down at the bar.

"Pssst, Molly," Mindi whispered. "What does he mean by that?"

"Don't know."

"Maybe it's our policy of not worrying about things which don't affect us directly," suggested Kimmer.

"It does affect us," Jason pointed out. "We should be trying to come up with a solution."

"It's difficult for me." Molly frowned. "See, I believe the soul is inseparable from the body, so I don't understand this whole thing at all. Maybe it's just some sort of mass hallucination."

"Or it's like 'Curiouser and Curiouser'" Kaiya said, brightening up. "You know, repressed desires causing an alternate reality!"

"I can see Janette wanting to be LaCroix," Molly said. "But *Tracy*?!"

"There was that 'soccer-mom' episode," Kimmer reminded her.

"You may be on to something, ladies," Jason said thoughtfully. "At least, in the meantime, we don't have to follow Janette around making sure she's safe, and LaCroix's not about to redecorate the Raven."

"But what about Screed in LaCroix's body?" Mindi asked. "I don't get that!"

"Oh, Himself has a bit of the down-and-dirty in him," Molly answered drily. "After all, this is the man who instituted 'strip nights' at the Raven."

"You seem to know him pretty well," commented Jason.

Molly snorted. "I should--I've been writing him naked for the last three years or so."

"PG-13!" hissed Kimmer.

"All right, all right! But it's pretty hard for me to be anywhere near PG-13 around Himself..."

Recognizing the signs of an oncoming drool attack, Kimmer pushed Molly towards the other end of the bar. "Have another drink," she said, then sat down beside JaCroix. "So, tell me, sir--what was the Ancien Regime really like?"
